The Big Ro
Goober gives today's Eddie Award---given to the person, entity, or concept that most sucks the joy from a Twins victory (see next entry)---to our starting rotation. While most everybody assumed the bullpen would be the Twins's weak spot, once again Rick Anderson has pulled something of a rabbit out of his hat. While goodness knows the relief staff still has its problems, as a whole, they're not half bad. Who knows, maybe there's something ennobling about sitting amidst a bunch of crumpled paper cups listening to Rick Stelmaszek tell dirty jokes. Obviously, the rotation is hurt by the loss of Eric Milton and Kenny Rogers, if not Rick Reed. But all the more reason for Brad Radke, Johan Santana, and Kyle Lohse to step up. Instead, our top three starters are the proud owners of 5.57, 5.91, and 7.88 ERAs, respectively. And that's why they just won their first Eddie.
